Natural Allergy Relief

Who doesn’t hate seasonal allergies? The itching and watery eyes, runny nose, sneezing…enough is enough! And if you’re not a big fan of medication for your seasonal allergies (like me), I’m always on the lookout for a more natural approach. Although research has shown that massively cleansing your liver can provide lasting allergy relief, I’m a big fan of essential oils and their “on-the-spot” allergy relieving properties. There are so many different allergens in the air this time of year and everyone’s system is different, so some essential oils may work better for you than others.

Here’s a few to try and get some relief this year:

1. Eucalyptus Oil:

When I think respiratory relief, the first oil that comes to mind is always eucalyptus. Its properties are so broad, I would be surprised if this oil didn’t provide at least partial relief.

2. Tea Tree Oil:

Although this oil is more known for its antiseptic and anti-fungal properties, it contains components that help block histamines and help with inflammation.

3. Lemon Oil:

Bright, uplifting and cleansing, I love Lemon for the way it supports the respiratory and immune system.

4. Cedarwood:

I always use Cedarwood to break up any kind of congestion but it also contains natural antihistamine properties. Double bonus!

5. Spruce:

Most conifer oils (pine, fir, spruce, etc…) will provide respiratory support but spruce specifically has been shown to help with allergy relief.

6. Sweet Marjoram:

It’s often overlooked but don’t forget about the anti-inflammatory, antihistamine, antibacterial and analgesic properties of Sweet Marjoram.

7. Happy Breathing:

This blend of mine contains ALL of these oils and more. It works wonders for my family!

How do you use these oils? Many times, just inhaling some of these oils will do the trick. Personally, I like to put a few drops around each nostril so I get both the topical and inhalation benefits. Depending on how your allergies affect you, try a little on your chest, forehead or neck. Always make sure you remember to use carrier oil with your essential oil like coconut oil, almond oil, or even a little lotion will do the trick. Most roll-ons are already pre-diluted and ready to be applied to the skin.

So if you’re totally over dealing with allergies, end the suffering now. It’s seriously almost too easy—there’s no excuse not to put these powerhouse oils to work for you!
